Using the Big Softie on Casualty for two different applications by Lawrence Jones DoP

In Sequence One (Blue Seq)

We had scene where one of our lead characters "Jay" played by Ben Turner goes for a discreet test/scan at a special facility to discern if he has testicular Cancer (moody scene end of Ep)

provided on the day by art department was a small room, examination bed, chair desk, angle poise lamp,....nothing else!
We needed some thing to suggest hi- tech scanning.....what to do ??...... so thinking on my feet, I deployed the Big softie Gelled up with Special blue gel as a foreground illuminated bit of medical gear
augmented by a super blue single kino tube
The colour, light, and shape, used as foreground, sold the effect and the Director very happy!

In Sequence 2 Two (Bridal Sequence)

Scene where our female guest character feels up staged by younger (prettier?) models at a wedding fair held at a swanky Bristol City Centre Hotel

Big softie deployed in more conventional manner, ie mounted on 19 mm bars for the camera lens to shoot through, thus using the wrap around "beauty light" effect, also as pictured, mounted on a stand as soft key just off Camera, gelled with 1/2 cto warming gel "
